2120XL - Trace Nitrogen Analyzer

What is the effect of moisture on the nitrogen reading?
Can the analyzer be powered without flowing argon sample gas?

What is the effect of moisture on the nitrogen reading?

Without Teledyne's moisture trap, interference due to moisture is expected to reduce the nitrogen reading by approximately 4% of the reading for every ppm of moisture in the stream. With Teledyne's moisture trap installed, there will be no interference.

Can the analyzer be powered without flowing argon sample gas?

It is not recommended to keep the unit powered without flowing sample gas. It is possible detector damage could occur.

Can oxygen or other impurities interfere with the nitrogen measurement?

Although the plasma emission detector for the 2120XL is nitrogen-selective, other compounds including nitrogen may introduce some small positive or negative interference. The interference is non-linear over the analyzer's ranges and may be depending on the impurity and concentration.

Here is an example of interferences contributed by the impurities of a gas containing 10 ppm nitrogen, 10 ppm hydrogen, 10 ppm oxygen, 10 ppm methane and 10 ppm carbon monoxide in an argon background:

Nitrogen 10 ppm ---
Oxygen 0.35 ppm 3.5%
Hydrogen -0.2 ppm -2.0%
Methane -0.175 ppm -1.75%
Carbon Monoxide 0.175 ppm 1.75%

What is the maximum sample inlet pressure?

30 psig, although it is recommended not to exceed 20 psig for the analyzer to properly control flow rate.
