320 Series - Portable Oxygen Analyzers

What routine maintenance should we be doing on the 320P?
How long should the sensor last before being replaced?
Do we wait until it starts giving us incorrect readings before replacing the sensor, or should / can we change it based on time?
Does the 320P require annual servicing and calibration at Teledyne?
The cable for recharging the NiCad battery has no visible Voltage Transformer adapter 220/100 VAC. Is the voltage adapter (transformer) built inside the instrument?
How do I install the B-1 sensor?
I have a 320P Portable Oxygen Analyzer that is used to detect the amount of oxygen in a furnace during burn out. While using this machine, it readily registered the oxygen content in the air, but took a considerable amount of time to determine the content of the furnace compared to a slightly newer version of the same analyzer. In the past, the two analyzers have taken the same amount of time to make a reading. What do I need to do to fix the problem?
How can you see with 320 P/D if battery is fully charged (after 12-24 hours)?

What routine maintenance should we be doing on the 320P?

Maintenance for the 320P includes re-charging the batteries, periodic calibration, sensor replacement, and filter replacement to protect the internal pump.

Check calibration prior to use, change the sensor as needed, and charge the battery overnight. Do not over charge the batteries (for more than 16 hours).

There is a recommended spare parts list in the manual with the Teledyne part numbers for reference. You may also contact Teledyne for an RMA# if you would like to send it to the factory for servicing.

How long should the sensor last before being replaced?

The standard sensor for the 320P is the class B-1 which has an expected life of 6 - 8 months.

Do we wait until it starts giving us incorrect readings before replacing the sensor, or should / can we change it based on time?

The sensor must be replaced when there is not enough output from the sensor to span calibrate the analyzer.

As the sensor nears the end of its useful life, the reading will start dropping, and you will notice that it will be necessary for you to re-adjust the span calibrate pot more often to keep it in calibration. This should occur after 6-8 months of use, so based on these points, you can decide when you want to replace the sensor.

Does the 320P require annual servicing and calibration at Teledyne?

These analyzers, when maintained properly, will continue to operate trouble free for several years.

Unless there is an major electrical problem, it is not necessary to send the instrument here for servicing. However, this option is available.

The cable for recharging the NiCad battery has no visible Voltage Transformer adapter 220/100 VAC. Is the voltage adapter (transformer) built inside the instrument?

The battery charging circuit for this analyzer is internal; it is made to operate with 220VAC power. Connect the power cord to the analyzer and your 220VAC supply for battery charging only. Keep the analyzer range switch in the "off" position while charging.

How do I install the B-1 sensor?

P/N B-9490 is only the probe assembly which will hold the sensor. The B1 sensor is packaged separately, with installation instructions included.

To install the sensor, unscrew the end of the probe assembly to remove probe cap:

1) remove the sensor from the bag

2) remove the red shorting button from the sensor

3) place the sensor inside the probe assembly, with the screen side up towards the cap

4) screw the cap back onto the probe

My 320P is responding slowly. What do I need to do to fix the problem?

1) Check the filter assembly, for dirty or wet cotton element inside, or maybe leak at the filter end cap.

2) The sensor responds to Air, which indicates the sensor output is good. Now you can check the sensor's response to lower O2 bypassing the filter and pump, and connect a low O2 gas directly to the center port of the flow-thru adapter. If the reading drops as expected, this will confirm that the problem is either the filter or pump.

How can you see with 320 P/D if battery is fully charged (after 12-24 hours)?

Battery test will display up to 750 for fully charged batteries. Re-charge if below 500. Please see the Test Procedure for the Model 320P/D.
